About

In the beginning, IndonesiaZine was a library of zines created by Indonesian high school students during and after a series of zine writing workshops in Indonesia in September 2015. You can find the zines on the News page.

Looking from overhead at girls discussing and writing notes.

The zine writing workshops were led by Deryn Mansell, an Australian author, editor and Indonesian teacher, with the support of a travel grant from the Australia-Indonesia Institute. Assistance with planning and implementing the workshops was provided by the Makassar International Writers Festival, Asia Education Foundation‘s BRIDGE School Partnerships Program, and teachers from six participating schools: SMAN 11 Unggulan Pinrang; SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Surabaya; SMAN 15 Surabaya; SMAN 5 Surabaya; Tranby College, Western Australia; and SMPN 1 Karangmojo.

This library would not exist without the enthusiasm and hard work of the zine writers. Wherever you are out there, I hope you’re well and you’re still writing and illustrating.

The 2015 workshop series was supported by the Australian Government through the Australia-Indonesia Institute of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
